Gathering Wood

On Tuesday we went with my parents to the Uinta's to cut firewood. My dad got a permit for few cords of firewood. They let you cut the dead trees and dead fall to help clear out the land. We headed out early in the morning.

Dad found a spot he wanted to head towards and it was like driving up part of a river bed just barely wide enough for the truck. It was so full of rocks! We had a big trailer on the back and just kept going hoping it finally got wider so we could turn around. One point my dad stopped the truck and walked up the trail. Only a few minutes further it opened up into this beautiful space! Kennedy staying warm.

It was so pretty! It opened up into this BIG meadow with a creek running through it.

There was a ton of wood laying around that had once been buildings. We figured they were old milling camps but weren't too sure.
When we got back home mom looked it up and these are remnants of old milling camps that were used in the late 1800s!!! They made railroad ties for the building of the railroads and floated them down the river and used oxen to haul them out on the 'road' we drove up on.

These buildings were all standing until about 20 years ago. It was so neat to see a part of Utah's history!

Mom and I had to run into Evanston to get another chain saw blade. The one they had was dull. Kennedy didn't last long on the way into town!!

The logs were so dense and heavy!!

Kennedy loves taking pictures. She would spend all day with my camera if I'd let her. She took several while we were up there. This is one of them.
