Our adventure to Washington DC

We started off Saturday morning deciding we were going to catch the metro and ride into DC. We had a good idea where the metro left from.. at the stadium but not exactly sure where at the stadium. We map quested our directions to there and headed off.. we were so good on directions until the last turn and somehow it put us onto a road that wasn't where we were supposed to be... so we had an idea of where to go.. just not sure how to get there. The hard part is there are SO many one way streets.. and all of the roads have dividers between them.. so you're headed one way.. see what you need is to your left.. have to go to the intersection to flip a U turn.. head back and make the left turn. Well we ended up wandering around in the ghetto of Baltimore AGAIN. It was such a mess just trying to get there. We could see where we needed to be but couldn't make the roads cooperate!

We finally got to the stadium and had to figure out where to go. Drove around and an officer told us to go to the back. We headed over there and even though you're in the stadium its still city roads that come in and out and connect.. there was some sort of festival going on so we asked the lady where to catch the metro at. She said to us.. see all those tents and people there? Yes? That parking lot where the African American Days is going on is where the parking lot is for the metro.. but the metro doesn't run out of here on Saturdays or Sunday. You need to go to Penn station.. OK great. Where is Penn station? She told us to leave make a left and it would put us onto a road I cant remember the name of.. Follow it until you come to this cross street and there is Penn Station. Awesome thanks! So we headed off towards Penn station on the road she told us and kept going.. and going.. and going.. and going... we stopped and asked some people where it was they said just keep going.. we're in GHETTO land at this point. Two white girls in a nice car in not nice neighborhoods where we are being starred at. We said well how far? Like blocks? miles? minutes? They're reply was oh you'll see it soon... so we kept going.. and going..
We passed a gay pride festival..a hispanic pride festival... this building? No idea what it was but it was neat! and kept going.. and going.. we never saw the intersecting road.. and our road came to a dead end?! After about and hour we finally found Penn Station.. which is actually Pennsylvania Station
Penn Station. We didn't even really want to park our rental car in the area we were in.. Chris stayed with the car and I ran inside. Guess what.. The metro doesn't run from there on Saturday or Sunday either!
So at this point we decide to just drive to DC...
The top circle is Baltimore. The lower circle is DC. Those are the interstates that circle around the area... it is so complicated to get around!!
But with some good luck and only stopping for directions once we made it to downtown DC!
The houses reminded me so much of The Cosby show!
IT WAS HOT. RECORD BREAKING HOT. AND HUMID! But such a nice day! We parked the car and headed out to explore.
The Capitol Building
My new babies daddy
US Dept Of Treasury.
The White House

On our way over to the Washington Monument

It was so hot outside and we were on foot walking all over. Its such a huge area with so much to see. it would take days to be able to see everything there. So many of the businesses were closed down because it was Saturday!?
We made our way over to the WWII Memorial. It was really neat to see

Somebody needs to be working a little harder..

We couldn't find a place that was open to eat dinner at. What little businesses that were left open started closing at 5pm!? We didn't get there until about 230. So we wandered our way back to our car and almost died from the heat but we made it. We decided to just start making our way out of DC and grab something to eat on the way. It was crazy trying to get out of DC and back to the freeway. Some how we ended up in the ghetto again.. imagine that!! BUT the ghettos of DC are far better than the ones in Baltimore. We had people coming up to our veh stopped at red lights wandering through the cars asking for money. One guy stood right in front of our car and wouldn't move out of the way!! We couldn't find a place with a drive thru either!!! All the fast food and convenience places were tucked into little buildings in a strip on the side of the road. It wasn't like you could pull into the parking lot of the 711 and get out and walk to the building. They had no parking lots. They had bars on the doors and windows. Even the McDonald's. No parking lot. No drive thru. After about an hour of driving to get out we finally found a McDonald's with a drive thru and called it good!
